University of Phoenix Posts 3rd Quarter Loss

This is a really interesting story about EDMC, the parent company to well known online degree peddler, University of Phoenix.  It seems they have posted a substantial 3rd quarter loss for the first time.

An EDMC spokesperson said that they believed the loss was due in part to layoffs that came as a result of new federal regulation.  The new rules prohibit from college recruiters being paid as a function of the number of students they enroll…which as we all know is how salespeople are typically paid.

Sounds to me like they might actually be in for a bit of trouble as any good salesperson is not going to want to work for a company where they are not rewarded for doing their job well.  That may sound harsh, but I think it is reality unfortunately.

Why Would Anyone Want to Listen to You?

Got me. I don’t even listen to myself most of the time. I mean, if you take yourself so
seriously that you have to listen to eveything you say, then you may as well pack it in and
give up. I think most people are so caught up in the rat race that they forgot what living
is all about. Sheesh.

Seriously, Why This Site?

Why not? I am willing to shell out a few bucks each year to have my own little space on the web
where I can write whatever the F I want to. Yeah, that’s right, I said it…well I almost did.
You got the picture though, didn’t ya?

Do You Have Anything Else to Add?

Absolutely, I am just getting warmed up.

Let’s see, where can I begin? First, I want to say that I think Austin, TX is probably one of the greatest towns left
in the USA. A really great mix of people…we really have all kinds here and that is what makes it so great. Well, that
and the fact that I think some of the best food in the country is here in these hills. Yeah, we have hills here in Central
Texas…imagine that. If you like the rolling hills and oak trees of southern California, then you will love Austin and the
surrounding Hill Country. Truly amazing.

But, Austin is really a great place to live, raise a family and try and contribute something to society while at the same
time making a living. Oh, yeah that is a novel concept isn’t it? I mean, you can (as Martin Sheen referenced in Wall Street) live
off the money of others, or you can contribute something to society. I have friends that do both, and I have decided that I am
actually going to try and live a fulfilling life by doing something that makes my brain work, makes my mind race, something that I
am passionate about. I believe if you have those things, then the money will follow.

Because of thoughts like this, I have been helping my beautiful wife to put the finishing touches on the first of her college admission
help warez, the Personal Statement Blueprint. It is really something special…like she is.

So What is Next?

Only time will tell what will come next. But, I hope that it will be fun and exciting and most of all fulfilling.
